I came to this island
to live by the shore
where wildflowers bloom
and eagles soar.
Where boats rest at anchor
and rock on the tide
and deer dine in gardens
off to the side.
Where geese in a gaggle
make a racket in the sky
on their way elsewhere
we hear them go by.
The forest is heavy
it’s deep and it’s green
protecting the creatures
not often seen.
Sunsets and sunrises
bloom overhead
though I have to admit
I’m still in my bed.
Life on this island
inspires and delights
with its mountains and meadows
and so many sights.
The smell of the sea
and rain on the trees,
the joy of a stroll
whenever I please.
